There Is und There Are

Was ist das?

There is und there are werden verwendet, um auszudrücken, dass etwas existiert oder vorhanden ist.

Verwende there is mit:

  • einer Person oder Sache
  • unzählbaren Nomen

Verwende there are mit:

  • zwei oder mehr Personen oder Sachen

Beispiele:

  • There is a book on the table.
  • There is some milk in the fridge.
  • There are three chairs in the room.

Die Kurzform von there is ist there’s.

  • There’s a café near my house.

Wann man es verwendet

Verwende there is und there are, um:

  • neue Informationen einzuführen
  • Orte zu beschreiben
  • zu sagen, was verfügbar ist
  • zu sagen, wie viele Personen oder Dinge vorhanden sind
  • über Ereignisse oder Probleme zu sprechen

Beispiele:

  • There is a bank next to the station.

Positive Sätze

Verwende:

there is + Singularnomen

  • There is a shop nearby.

Verwende:

there is + unzählbares Nomen

  • There is a lot of traffic today.

Verwende:

there are + Pluralnomen

  • There are two shops nearby.
  • There are several windows in the room.

Negative Sätze

Verwende:

there is not + Singular- oder unzählbares Nomen

  • There is not a pharmacy nearby.
  • There is not much time.

Die Kurzform ist there isn’t.

Verwende:

there are not + Pluralnomen

  • There are not enough chairs.
  • There are not any shops nearby.

Die Kurzform ist there aren’t.

Fragen

Verwende:

Is there + Singular- oder unzählbares Nomen?

  • Is there a bathroom here?
  • Is there any coffee left?

Verwende:

Are there + Pluralnomen?

  • Are there any questions?
  • Are there two bedrooms?

Kurzantworten

  • Is there a bank nearby? — Yes, there is.
  • Is there any milk? — No, there isn’t.
  • Are there any tickets left? — Yes, there are.
  • Are there many people? — No, there aren’t.

Verwendung von some und any

Verwende some hauptsächlich in positiven Sätzen.

  • There is some bread.
  • There are some apples.

Verwende any hauptsächlich in negativen Sätzen und Fragen.

  • There isn’t any bread.
  • Are there any apples?

Ausnahmen

In informeller Sprache wird there’s manchmal vor einem Pluralnomen verwendet.

  • There’s two people outside.

Das ist im Gespräch üblich, aber there are ist die Standardform.

  • There are two people outside.

Der Ausdruck there is bedeutet nicht dasselbe wie it is.

  • There is a café near the station. — Ein Café existiert dort.
  • It is near the station. — Eine bekannte Person oder Sache ist in der Nähe der Station.

Verwende there was und there were für die Vergangenheit.

  • There was a problem yesterday.
  • There were many people at the event.

  1. Falsch: There are a book on the table. Richtig: There is a book on the table. Erklärung: Verwende there is mit einem Singularnomen.

  2. Falsch: There is two chairs in the room. Richtig: There are two chairs in the room. Erklärung: Verwende there are mit Pluralnomen.

  3. Falsch: There are some milk in the fridge. Richtig: There is some milk in the fridge. Erklärung: Verwende there is mit unzählbaren Nomen.

  4. Falsch: Is there any shops nearby? Richtig: Are there any shops nearby? Erklärung: Verwende are there mit Pluralnomen.

  5. Falsch: There isn’t no food. Richtig: There isn’t any food. Erklärung: Vermeide doppelte Verneinung. Verwende any nach isn’t.

  6. Falsch: Are there a bathroom here? Richtig: Is there a bathroom here? Erklärung: Verwende is there mit einem Singularnomen.

  7. Falsch: It is a problem with the door. Richtig: There is a problem with the door. Erklärung: Verwende there is, um etwas einzuführen, das existiert.
