มันคืออะไร?

There is และ there are ใช้เพื่อกล่าวว่าสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่งมีอยู่หรือปรากฏอยู่

ใช้ there is กับ:

• คนหรือสิ่งของหนึ่งคน/หนึ่งสิ่ง
• คำนามนับไม่ได้

ใช้ there are กับ:

• คนหรือสิ่งของสองคน/สองสิ่งขึ้นไป

ตัวอย่าง:

• There is a book on the table.
• There is some milk in the fridge.
• There are three chairs in the room.

รูปย่อของ there is คือ there’s

• There’s a café near my house.

ใช้เมื่อใด

ใช้ there is และ there are เพื่อ:

• แนะนำข้อมูลใหม่
• บรรยายสถานที่
• กล่าวถึงสิ่งที่มีให้
• กล่าวถึงจำนวนคนหรือสิ่งของที่ปรากฏอยู่
• พูดถึงเหตุการณ์หรือปัญหา

ตัวอย่าง:

• There is a bank next to the station.
• There are two bathrooms in the apartment.
• There is some food in the kitchen.
• There are many people outside.

ใช้:

there is + คำนามเอกพจน์

ใช้:

there is + คำนามนับไม่ได้

ใช้:

there are + คำนามพหูพจน์

• There are two shops nearby.
• There are several windows in the room.

ประโยคปฏิเสธ

ใช้:

there is not + คำนามเอกพจน์หรือคำนามนับไม่ได้

• There is not a pharmacy nearby.
• There is not much time.

รูปย่อคือ there isn’t

ใช้:

there are not + คำนามพหูพจน์

• There are not enough chairs.
• There are not any shops nearby.

รูปย่อคือ there aren’t

คำถาม

ใช้:

Is there + คำนามเอกพจน์หรือคำนามนับไม่ได้?

คำตอบสั้นๆ

• Is there a bank nearby? — Yes, there is.
• Is there any milk? — No, there isn’t.
• Are there any tickets left? — Yes, there are.
• Are there many people? — No, there aren’t.

การใช้ some และ any

ใช้ some ส่วนใหญ่ในประโยคบอกเล่า

• There is some bread.
• There are some apples.

ใช้ any ส่วนใหญ่ในประโยคปฏิเสธและคำถาม

• There isn’t any bread.
• Are there any apples?

ข้อยกเว้น

ในการพูดแบบไม่เป็นทางการ บางครั้งใช้ there’s นำหน้าคำนามพหูพจน์

• There’s two people outside.
