Superlative adjektiver og den bestemte artikel

Hvad er det?

Superlative adjectives bruges til at sammenligne en person, ting, sted eller situation med alle andre i en gruppe.

De viser den højeste eller laveste grad af en egenskab.

På engelsk bruger superlative adjectives normalt den bestemte artikel the.

  • tall → the tallest
  • fast → the fastest
  • beautiful → the most beautiful
  • expensive → the most expensive

Almindelige former:

Adjective Superlative
tall the tallest
small the smallest
fast the fastest
happy the happiest
interesting the most interesting
expensive the most expensive
good the best
bad the worst

Hvornår bruges det

Brug et superlative adjective, når du sammenligner en person eller ting med en hel gruppe.

  • Emma is the tallest student in the class.
  • This is the cheapest phone in the store.

Brug superlatives til at beskrive den højeste grad af en egenskab.

  • It is the hottest day of the week.
  • He is the fastest runner on the team.

Brug the most + adjective med mange længere adjectives.

  • This is the most interesting book here.
  • That is the most expensive restaurant in town.

Brug the least + adjective for den laveste grad af en egenskab.

  • This is the least difficult exercise.
  • It is the least expensive option.

Struktur

For mange korte adjectives tilføjes -est.

Subject + be + the + adjective-est + noun/complement

  • tall → the tallest
  • small → the smallest
  • fast → the fastest

Eksempel:

Leo is the tallest student in the class.

Hvis et adjective ender på -e, tilføjes kun -st.

  • nice → the nicest
  • large → the largest

Hvis et kort adjective ender på én vokal + én konsonant, fordobles den sidste konsonant ofte.

  • big → the biggest
  • hot → the hottest

Hvis et adjective ender på konsonant + -y, ændres y til i, og der tilføjes -est.

  • happy → the happiest
  • easy → the easiest

For mange længere adjectives bruges the most.

Subject + be + the most + adjective + noun/complement

  • the most beautiful
  • the most comfortable
  • the most important

Eksempel:

This is the most comfortable chair in the room.

For at vise den laveste grad bruges the least.

Subject + be + the least + adjective + noun/complement

Eksempel:

This is the least expensive hotel nearby.

Nogle almindelige adjectives har uregelmæssige superlative-former.

Adjective Superlative
good the best
bad the worst
far the farthest / the furthest

Den gruppe, der sammenlignes, indledes ofte med in eller of.

  • the tallest student in the class
  • the best day of the week

Undtagelser

Nogle adjectives har uregelmæssige superlative-former.

  • good → the best
  • bad → the worst
  • far → the farthest / the furthest

Brug normalt ikke både most og -est med samme adjective.

Brug:

the tallest

ikke:

the most tallest

Den bestemte artikel the bruges normalt før et superlative adjective, når adjective'et beskriver et noun.

  • She is the fastest runner.
  • This is the best option.

Når et possessivt ord allerede identificerer noun'et, bruges the ikke.

  • my best friend
  • her biggest problem
  • our most important task

Nogle tostavelses-adjectives kan bruge enten -est eller most, afhængigt af adjective'et og brugen.

  • the cleverest / the most clever
  • the quietest / the most quiet
