מה זה?

There is ו- there are משמשים לומר שמשהו קיים או נוכח.

השתמש ב- there is עם:

• אדם אחד או דבר אחד
• שמות עצם לא-ספירים

השתמש ב- there are עם:

• שני אנשים או דברים או יותר

דוגמאות:

• There is a book on the table.
• There is some milk in the fridge.
• There are three chairs in the room.

הצורה הקצרה של there is היא there’s.

השתמש:

הצורה הקצרה היא there isn’t.

שימוש ב- some ו- any

השתמש ב- some בעיקר במשפטי חיוב.

השתמש ב- any בעיקר במשפטי שלילה ובשאלות.

יוצאים מן הכלל

בדיבור לא רשמי, משתמשים לפעמים ב- there’s לפני שם עצם רבים.

• There’s two people outside.

זה נפוץ בשיחה, אבל there are היא הצורה התקנית.

• There are two people outside.

הביטוי there is אינו אומר אותו דבר כמו it is.

• There is a café near the station. — בית קפה קיים שם.
• It is near the station. — אדם או דבר ידוע נמצא ליד התחנה.

השתמש ב- there was ו- there were לזמן עבר.

• There was a problem yesterday.
• There were many people at the event.

טעויות נפוצות

1. לא נכון: There are a book on the table. נכון: There is a book on the table. הסבר: השתמש ב- there is עם שם עצם יחיד.
