Mi ez?

Az angol összehasonlítások gyakran használják a than és a the szót.

A than szót akkor használjuk, ha két személyt, dolgot, helyet vagy helyzetet hasonlítunk össze, középfokú melléknév vagy határozószó után.

• Tom is taller than Ben.
• This car is faster than mine.

A the határozott névelőt általában felsőfokú melléknév előtt használjuk, amikor egy személyt vagy dolgot egy egész csoporthoz hasonlítunk.

• Anna is the tallest student in the class.
• This is the cheapest option.

A the szót a the + comparative, the + comparative szerkezetben is használjuk, hogy jelezzük, két változás összefügg.

• The more you practise, the easier it becomes.
• The earlier we leave, the better.

Mikor használjuk

A than szót középfokú alak után használjuk, amikor közvetlenül két dolgot hasonlítunk össze.

• My house is bigger than yours.
• Today is warmer than yesterday.

A the + superlative szerkezetet akkor használjuk, amikor egy csoportban azt a személyt vagy dolgot azonosítjuk, amelyikben egy tulajdonság a legnagyobb vagy legkisebb mértékben van jelen.

• She is the youngest person in the family.
• It is the most expensive restaurant here.

A the + comparative, the + comparative szerkezetet akkor használjuk, amikor az egyik változás hat a másikra.

• The faster you drive, the more fuel you use.
• The longer I wait, the more tired I become.

Rövid kifejezések is gyakoriak ezzel a szerkezettel.

• The sooner, the better.
• The more, the merrier.

Szerkezet

Közvetlen összehasonlításhoz:

Subject + be/verb + comparative + than + person/thing

• Jack is older than Sam.
• This train moves faster than that one.

A more vagy less szóval:

Subject + be/verb + more/less + adjective + than + person/thing

• This hotel is more comfortable than the other one.
• The second task is less difficult than the first.

Felsőfokhoz:

Subject + be + the + superlative + noun/complement

• Maya is the tallest student in the class.
• This is the most useful tool.

Két összefüggő változás kifejezéséhez:

The + comparative + clause, the + comparative + clause

• The older I get, the more patient I become.
• The less you spend, the more you save.

Ebben a különleges szerkezetben a the a középfokú szerkezet része. Nem egy konkrét főnevet azonosít úgy, ahogy a határozott névelő szokásosan teszi.

2. This phone is cheaper than that one.
3. Her new job is more interesting than her old job.
4. Today is less stressful than yesterday.
5. Leo is the tallest boy in his family.
6. This is the most comfortable chair in the room.
7. The earlier we start, the earlier we finish.
8. The more you read, the more words you learn.
9. The colder it gets, the more clothes I wear.
10. The sooner we leave, the better.

Kivételek

A than után az angolban a stílustól és a mondatszerkezettől függően különböző névmási formák állhatnak.

• She is taller than me.
• She is taller than I am.

Mindkettő gyakori és helyes. A második forma általában formálisabb.

A határozott névelőt általában nem használjuk közönséges középfokú melléknév előtt egyszerű összehasonlításban.

• Correct: John is taller than Mike.
• Incorrect: John is the taller than Mike.

A the azonban állhat középfokú alakkal, amikor pontosan két személy vagy dolog közül választunk.

• John is the taller of the two brothers.

A the + comparative, the + comparative szerkezet egy különleges, kötött összehasonlító szerkezet.

Gyakori hibák

1. Incorrect: My car is faster that yours. Correct: My car is faster than yours. Explanation: Két dolog összehasonlításakor a than szót használjuk középfokú alak után.

2. Incorrect: Lisa is taller from Anna. Correct: Lisa is taller than Anna. Explanation: Az angolban középfokú alak után általában a than szót használjuk, nem a from szót.

3. Incorrect: This book is more interesting that the other one. Correct: This book is more interesting than the other one. Explanation: Az összehasonlítás második részének bevezetéséhez a than szót használjuk.

4. Incorrect: He is tallest student in the class. Correct: He is the tallest student in the class. Explanation: A felsőfokú melléknevek általában a the határozott névelőt használják.

5. Incorrect: This is most expensive hotel here. Correct: This is the most expensive hotel here. Explanation: Felsőfokban a most + adjective előtt a the szót használjuk.

6. Incorrect: More you practise, easier it becomes. Correct: The more you practise, the easier it becomes. Explanation: Ebben a szerkezetben mindkét középfokú alak előtt a the szót használjuk.

7. Incorrect: The faster you work, you finish sooner. Correct: The faster you work, the sooner you finish. Explanation: Az összefüggő változást kifejező szerkezetben mindkét rész általában a the + comparative formát használja.
