There Is és There Are

Mi ez?

A there is és a there are kifejezéseket arra használjuk, hogy kijelentsük, valami létezik vagy jelen van.

A there is kifejezést használjuk:

  • egy személy vagy dolog esetén
  • megszámlálhatatlan főnevek esetén

A there are kifejezést használjuk:

  • két vagy több személy vagy dolog esetén

Példák:

  • There is a book on the table.
  • There is some milk in the fridge.
  • There are three chairs in the room.

A there is rövid alakja: there’s.

  • There’s a café near my house.

Mikor használjuk

A there is és a there are kifejezéseket használjuk:

  • új információ bevezetésére
  • helyek leírására
  • annak kifejezésére, hogy mi áll rendelkezésre
  • annak kifejezésére, hogy hány személy vagy dolog van jelen
  • eseményekről vagy problémákról való beszélésre

Tagadó mondatok

Használd:

there is not + egyes számú vagy megszámlálhatatlan főnév

  • There is not a pharmacy nearby.
  • There is not much time.

A rövid alak: there isn’t.

Használd:

there are not + többes számú főnév

  • There are not enough chairs.
  • There are not any shops nearby.

A rövid alak: there aren’t.

Rövid válaszok

  • Is there a bank nearby? — Yes, there is.
  • Is there any milk? — No, there isn’t.
  • Are there any tickets left? — Yes, there are.
  • Are there many people? — No, there aren’t.

A some és any használata

A some-ot főleg kijelentő mondatokban használjuk.

  • There is some bread.
  • There are some apples.

Az any-t főleg tagadó mondatokban és kérdésekben használjuk.

  • There isn’t any bread.
  • Are there any apples?

Kivételek

Informális beszédben a there’s néha többes számú főnév előtt is előfordul.

  • There’s two people outside.

Ez gyakori a társalgásban, de a there are a standard forma.

  • There are two people outside.

A there is kifejezés nem ugyanazt jelenti, mint az it is.

  • There is a café near the station. — Egy kávézó létezik ott.

Gyakori hibák

  4. Helytelen: Is there any shops nearby? Helyes: Are there any shops nearby? Magyarázat: Többes számú főnévvel az are there kifejezést használjuk.

  5. Helytelen: There isn’t no food. Helyes: There isn’t any food. Magyarázat: Kerüld a kettős tagadást. Az isn’t után az any-t használd.

  6. Helytelen: Are there a bathroom here? Helyes: Is there a bathroom here? Magyarázat: Egyes számú főnévvel az is there kifejezést használjuk.

  7. Helytelen: It is a problem with the door. Helyes: There is a problem with the door. Magyarázat: A there is kifejezést használjuk annak bevezetésére, ami létezik.

  8. Helytelen: There have many people outside. Helyes: There are many people outside. Magyarázat: A jelenlévő személyekről vagy dolgokról a there are kifejezést használjuk, nem a there have-et.
