ما هو؟
Can و can’t و could و couldn’t هي أفعال ناقصة (modal verbs).
تُستخدم للحديث عن:
- القدرة في الحاضر
- القدرة في الماضي
- الإذن
- الطلبات
- الاحتمال
Can هو الصيغة المثبتة.
- I can swim.
Can’t هو الشكل المختصر لـ cannot.
- I can’t drive.
Could يُستخدم غالبًا للقدرة في الماضي أو الطلبات المهذبة.
- She could read when she was four.
- Could you help me?
Couldn’t هو الشكل المختصر لـ could not.
- We couldn’t find the address.
متى يُستخدم
استخدم can للقدرة في الحاضر.
- He can speak English.
- I can cook.
استخدم can’t عندما لا يكون الشخص قادرًا على فعل شيء.
- She can’t swim.
- We can’t come today.
استخدم can لطلب الإذن أو منحه.

استخدم could للقدرة العامة في الماضي.

استثناءات
استخدم could للقدرة العامة في الماضي.
