ما هو؟

تُستخدم there is و there are للقول بأن شيئًا ما موجود أو حاضر.

استخدم there is مع:

• شخص واحد أو شيء واحد
• الأسماء غير المعدودة

استخدم there are مع:

• شخصين أو أكثر أو أشياء

أمثلة:

• There is a book on the table.
• There is some milk in the fridge.
• There are three chairs in the room.

الصيغة المختصرة لـ there is هي there’s.

• There’s a café near my house.

متى تُستخدم

استخدم there is و there are من أجل:

• تقديم معلومات جديدة
• وصف الأماكن
• قول ما هو متاح
• قول عدد الأشخاص أو الأشياء الموجودة
• التحدث عن الأحداث أو المشكلات

أمثلة:

• There is a bank next to the station.
• There are two bathrooms in the apartment.
• There is some food in the kitchen.
• There are many people outside.

الجمل المثبتة

استخدم:

there is + اسم مفرد

• There is a shop nearby.
• There is one window in the room.

استخدم:

there is + اسم غير معدود

• There is some water in the bottle.
• There is a lot of traffic today.

استخدم:

there are + اسم جمع

• There are two shops nearby.
• There are several windows in the room.

الجمل المنفية

استخدم:

there is not + اسم مفرد أو غير معدود

• There is not a pharmacy nearby.
• There is not much time.

الصيغة المختصرة هي there isn’t.

استخدم:

there are not + اسم جمع

• There are not enough chairs.
• There are not any shops nearby.

الصيغة المختصرة هي there aren’t.

الأسئلة

استخدم:

Is there + اسم مفرد أو غير معدود؟

• Is there a bathroom here?
• Is there any coffee left?

استخدم:

Are there + اسم جمع؟

• Are there any questions?
• Are there two bedrooms?

الإجابات القصيرة

• Is there a bank nearby? — Yes, there is.
• Is there any milk? — No, there isn’t.
• Are there any tickets left? — Yes, there are.
• Are there many people? — No, there aren’t.

استخدام some و any

استخدم some بشكل أساسي في الجمل المثبتة.

• There is some bread.
• There are some apples.

استخدم any بشكل أساسي في الجمل المنفية والأسئلة.

• There isn’t any bread.
• Are there any apples?

استثناءات

في الكلام غير الرسمي، تُستخدم there’s أحيانًا قبل اسم جمع.

• There’s two people outside.

هذا شائع في المحادثة، لكن there are هي الصيغة القياسية.

• There are two people outside.

العبارة there is لا تعني نفس معنى it is.

• There is a café near the station. — يوجد مقهى هناك.
• It is near the station. — شخص أو شيء معروف قريب من المحطة.

استخدم there was و there were للماضي.

• There was a problem yesterday.
• There were many people at the event.

أخطاء شائعة

1. خطأ: There are a book on the table. صواب: There is a book on the table. الشرح: استخدم there is مع الاسم المفرد.

2. خطأ: There is two chairs in the room. صواب: There are two chairs in the room. الشرح: استخدم there are مع الأسماء الجمع.

3. خطأ: There are some milk in the fridge. صواب: There is some milk in the fridge. الشرح: استخدم there is مع الأسماء غير المعدودة.

4. خطأ: Is there any shops nearby? صواب: Are there any shops nearby? الشرح: استخدم are there مع الأسماء الجمع.

5. خطأ: There isn’t no food. صواب: There isn’t any food. الشرح: تجنب النفي المزدوج. استخدم any بعد isn’t.

6. خطأ: Are there a bathroom here? صواب: Is there a bathroom here? الشرح: استخدم is there مع الاسم المفرد.

7. خطأ: It is a problem with the door. صواب: There is a problem with the door. الشرح: استخدم there is لتقديم شيء موجود.

8. خطأ: There have many people outside. صواب: There are many people outside. الشرح: استخدم there are، وليس there have، للحديث عن أشخاص أو أشياء موجودة.
