‏than وأداة التعريف

ما هو؟

غالبًا ما تستخدم المقارنات في اللغة الإنجليزية than وthe.

تُستخدم than بعد صفة أو ظرف في صيغة المقارنة عند المقارنة بين شخصين أو شيئين أو مكانين أو حالتين.

  • Tom is taller than Ben.
  • This car is faster than mine.

تُستخدم أداة التعريف the عادةً قبل صفة التفضيل عندما يُقارن شخص أو شيء واحد بمجموعة كاملة.

  • Anna is the tallest student in the class.
  • This is the cheapest option.

تُستخدم كلمة the أيضًا في التركيب the + comparative, the + comparative للدلالة على أن تغييرين مرتبطان ببعضهما.

  • The more you practise, the easier it becomes.
  • The earlier we leave, the better.

متى تُستخدم

استخدم than بعد صيغة المقارنة عند المقارنة المباشرة بين شيئين.

  • My house is bigger than yours.
  • Today is warmer than yesterday.

استخدم the + superlative عند تحديد الشخص أو الشيء الذي يمتلك أعلى أو أدنى درجة من صفة ما في مجموعة.

  • She is the youngest person in the family.
  • It is the most expensive restaurant here.

استخدم the + comparative, the + comparative عندما يؤثر تغيير في تغيير آخر.

  • The faster you drive, the more fuel you use.
  • The longer I wait, the more tired I become.

التعبيرات القصيرة بهذا التركيب شائعة أيضًا.

  • The sooner, the better.
  • The more, the merrier.

التركيب

للمقارنة المباشرة:

Subject + be/verb + comparative + than + person/thing

  • Jack is older than Sam.
  • This train moves faster than that one.

مع more أو less:

Subject + be/verb + more/less + adjective + than + person/thing

  • This hotel is more comfortable than the other one.
  • The second task is less difficult than the first.

لصيغة التفضيل:

Subject + be + the + superlative + noun/complement

  • Maya is the tallest student in the class.
  • This is the most useful tool.

للدلالة على تغييرين مرتبطين:

The + comparative + clause, the + comparative + clause

  • The older I get, the more patient I become.
  • The less you spend, the more you save.

في هذا التركيب الخاص، تُعدّ the جزءًا من نمط المقارنة. وهي لا تحدد اسمًا معينًا بالطريقة المعتادة التي تفعلها أداة التعريف.

الاستثناءات

بعد than، قد تستخدم اللغة الإنجليزية صيغًا مختلفة من الضمائر حسب الأسلوب وبنية الجملة.

  • She is taller than me.
  • She is taller than I am.

كلتا الصيغتين شائعة وصحيحة. الصيغة الثانية عادةً أكثر رسمية.

لا تُستخدم أداة التعريف عادةً قبل صفة المقارنة العادية في المقارنة البسيطة.

  • Correct: John is taller than Mike.
  • Incorrect: John is the taller than Mike.

ومع ذلك، يمكن أن تظهر the مع صيغة المقارنة عند الاختيار بين شخصين أو شيئين بالتحديد.

  • John is the taller of the two brothers.
