무엇인가요?

의문문은 정보, 확인, 허락, 또는 도움을 요청할 때 사용합니다.

영어 의문문은 종종 주어 앞에 조동사를 사용합니다.

흔한 의문사는 다음과 같습니다:

• who
• what
• where
• when
• why
• which
• how

예시:

• Do you work here?
• Is she at home?
• Where do they live?
• Why are you tired?

언제 사용하나요?

대답이 yes 또는 no일 때는 예/아니오 의문문을 사용합니다.

• Do you like coffee?
• Is he ready?
• Can they come?

특정 정보가 필요할 때는 의문사 의문문을 사용합니다.

• What do you want?
• Where does she work?
• When are they leaving?
• Why did he call?
• How can I help?

다음과 같은 것들에 대해 물을 때 의문문을 사용합니다:

• 사람: Who is that?
• 사물: What is this?
• 장소: Where do you live?
• 시간: When does the meeting start?
• 이유: Why are you late?
• 선택: Which colour do you prefer?
• 방법이나 상태: How do you make this?

구조

to be 의문문

다음을 사용합니다:

am/is/are + 주어 + 보어?

과거 의문문은 was 또는 were를 사용합니다.

• Was he at work?
• Were they busy?

다른 동사의 의문문

현재시제에서는 do 또는 does를 사용합니다.

do/does + 주어 + 동사 원형?

과거시제에서는 did를 사용합니다.

did + 주어 + 동사 원형?

• Did you call her?
• Did he finish the task?

조동사 의문문

조동사를 주어 앞에 둡니다.

조동사 + 주어 + 동사 원형?

• Can you swim?
• Could she help us?
• Should we leave?
• Will they come?

의문사 의문문

의문사를 조동사 앞에 둡니다.

의문사 + 조동사 + 주어 + 본동사?

• Where do you work?
• What does she need?
• Why did they leave?
• When will he arrive?

to be의 경우 다음을 사용합니다:

의문사 + am/is/are/was/were + 주어?

• Where is she?
• Why are they angry?
• When was the meeting?

주어 의문문

who 또는 what이 주어일 때는 do, does, did를 사용하지 않습니다.

• Who called you?
• What happened?
• Who lives here?

비교:

• Who called Anna? — 전화한 사람을 묻습니다.
• Who did Anna call? — Anna가 전화한 사람을 묻습니다.

예외

to be와 함께 do, does, did를 사용하지 않습니다.

• 올바름: Is she ready?
• 틀림: Does she be ready?

조동사와 함께 do, does, did를 사용하지 않습니다.

• 올바름: Can he drive?
• 틀림: Does he can drive?

의문사가 주어일 때는 일반적인 주어-의문사 어순을 사용합니다.

• Who knows the answer?
• What caused the problem?

화자가 놀라거나 확인할 때 비격식적인 말에서 진술문 형태의 의문문을 사용할 수 있습니다.

• You finished already?
• She lives here?

이러한 형태는 대화에서 흔하지만 격식 있는 글에서는 덜 적절합니다.

흔한 오류

1. 틀림: You like coffee? 올바름: Do you like coffee? 설명: 현재시제 의문문을 만들 때 do를 사용합니다.

2. 틀림: Does she works here? 올바름: Does she work here? 설명: does 뒤에는 동사 원형을 사용합니다.

3. 틀림: Did he went home? 올바름: Did he go home? 설명: did 뒤에는 동사 원형을 사용합니다.

4. 틀림: Do they are ready? 올바름: Are they ready? 설명: to be 동사와 함께 do를 사용하지 않습니다.

5. 틀림: Where she lives? 올바름: Where does she live? 설명: 현재시제 의문문에서는 does를 주어 앞에 둡니다.

6. 틀림: Why you are late? 올바름: Why are you late? 설명: are를 주어 앞에 둡니다.

7. 틀림: Does he can swim? 올바름: Can he swim? 설명: does 없이 조동사를 주어 앞에 둡니다.

8. 틀림: Who did call you? 올바름: Who called you? 설명: who가 주어일 때는 did를 사용하지 않습니다.
