Kada vartoti

Paprastąjį būtąjį laiką veiksmažodžio to be vartokite kalbėdami apie:

  • praeities būsenas: I was tired.
  • praeities jausmus: She was nervous.
  • praeities vietas: They were at school.
  • praeities amžių: He was ten years old.
  • praeities apibūdinimus: The room was small.
  • praeities situacijas: We were very busy.
  • praeities datas ir laiką: It was Monday.

Kai kuriose oficialiose ar nerealiose konstrukcijose su I, he, she arba it vietoj was vartojama were.

Neformaliame anglų kalboje šiose konstrukcijose kartais vartojama was, tačiau standartinė forma yra were.

Dažnos klaidos

  1. Neteisingai: I were tired yesterday. Teisingai: I was tired yesterday. Paaiškinimas: Su I vartokite was.
