Vanlige og demonstrative adjektiver

Hva er det?

Adjektiver beskriver substantiver. De gir mer informasjon om en person, et sted, en ting eller en idé.

Vanlige adjektiver beskriver egenskaper som størrelse, farge, alder, form eller mening.

Eksempler:

  • a small house
  • a red bag
  • an old car
  • a friendly teacher

Påpekende adjektiver viser til bestemte substantiver. De er:

  • this
  • that
  • these
  • those

Et påpekende adjektiv står alltid foran et substantiv.

Eksempler:

  • this book
  • that building
  • these shoes
  • those people

Når du skal bruke dem

Bruk vanlige adjektiver for å beskrive hvordan et substantiv er.

Eksempler:

  • a beautiful garden
  • a difficult question
  • a cold morning

Bruk påpekende adjektiver for å vise hvilken person eller ting du mener.

Bruk this for én person eller ting som er nær.

  • this chair

Bruk that for én person eller ting som er lenger unna.

  • that chair

Bruk these for to eller flere personer eller ting som er nær.

  • these chairs

Bruk those for to eller flere personer eller ting som er lenger unna.

  • those chairs

Påpekende adjektiver kan også vise om noe føles nært eller fjernt i tid.

Vanlige adjektiver foran substantiver

Den vanlige strukturen er:

artikkel eller determinativ + adjektiv + substantiv

Vanlige adjektiver endrer seg ikke for entall eller flertall.

  • a small box
  • two small boxes

Vanlige adjektiver etter bindeverb

Adjektiver kan også komme etter verb som be, look, feel, seem og become.

Strukturen er:

subjekt + bindeverb + adjektiv

  • The room is small.
  • She looks tired.
  • The water feels cold.

Påpekende adjektiver

Strukturen er:

påpekende adjektiv + substantiv

Bruk this og that med substantiv i entall.

Bruk these og those med substantiv i flertall.

Et påpekende adjektiv kan stå foran et annet adjektiv.

Strukturen er:

påpekende adjektiv + vanlig adjektiv + substantiv

  • this old house
  • that blue car
  • these new shoes
  • those large buildings

  2. This coffee is very hot.
  3. That tall man is my neighbor.
  4. These fresh apples taste good.

Unntak

Noen adjektiver står vanligvis etter substantivet eller pronomenet de beskriver.

  • something useful
  • someone special
  • the people responsible

Noen adjektiver brukes vanligvis etter et bindeverb og står normalt ikke direkte foran et substantiv.

  • The child is asleep.
  • She is afraid.

Påpekende adjektiver må samsvare med substantivet i tall.

  • this book
  • these books
  • that car
  • those cars
