এটি কী?
তুলনামূলক বিশেষণ (Comparative adjectives) দুটি ব্যক্তি, বস্তু, স্থান বা পরিস্থিতির তুলনা করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
এগুলো দেখায় যে এক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর মধ্যে অন্য একটির চেয়ে কোনো গুণ বেশি বা কম আছে।
সাধারণ তুলনামূলক রূপগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছে:

তুলনামূলক বিশেষণের পরে প্রায়ই than শব্দটি ব্যবহৃত হয়।

কখন ব্যবহার করবেন
দুটি ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর তুলনা করার সময় তুলনামূলক বিশেষণ ব্যবহার করুন।
- This car is faster than that car.
- My room is smaller than yours.
দুটি স্থানের তুলনা করার সময় এগুলো ব্যবহার করুন।
- Calgary is colder than Vancouver.
দুটি পরিস্থিতির তুলনা করার সময় এগুলো ব্যবহার করুন।
- Today is busier than yesterday.
অনেক দীর্ঘ বিশেষণের সাথে more + adjective ব্যবহার করুন।
- This book is more interesting than that one.
কোনো গুণের কম মাত্রা দেখাতে less + adjective ব্যবহার করুন।
- This restaurant is less expensive than the other one.
গঠন
অনেক ছোট বিশেষণের সাথে -er যোগ করুন।
Subject + be + adjective-er + than + noun/pronoun
- tall → taller
- fast → faster
- old → older
উদাহরণ:
Anna is taller than Maria.
যদি কোনো বিশেষণ -e দিয়ে শেষ হয়, তবে শুধু -r যোগ করুন।
- nice → nicer
- large → larger
যদি কোনো ছোট বিশেষণ একটি স্বরবর্ণ + একটি ব্যঞ্জনবর্ণ দিয়ে শেষ হয়, তবে শেষ ব্যঞ্জনবর্ণটি প্রায়ই দ্বিগুণ করা হয়।
- big → bigger
- hot → hotter
যদি কোনো বিশেষণ ব্যঞ্জনবর্ণ + -y দিয়ে শেষ হয়, তবে y কে i তে পরিবর্তন করুন এবং -er যোগ করুন।
- happy → happier
- easy → easier
অনেক দীর্ঘ বিশেষণের জন্য more ব্যবহার করুন।

উদাহরণ:
This chair is more comfortable than that one.
কম মাত্রা দেখাতে less ব্যবহার করুন।

ব্যতিক্রম
কিছু বিশেষণের অনিয়মিত তুলনামূলক রূপ রয়েছে এবং এগুলো স্বাভাবিক -er বা more গঠন ব্যবহার করে না।

- bad → worse
- far → farther / further
সাধারণত more এবং -er একসাথে ব্যবহার করবেন না।

কিছু দ্বি-অক্ষরীয় বিশেষণ বিশেষণ এবং ব্যবহারের উপর নির্ভর করে যেকোনো একটি রূপ ব্যবহার করতে পারে।
