প্রশ্ন ব্যবহার করা হয় তথ্য, নিশ্চিতকরণ, অনুমতি বা সাহায্য চাওয়ার জন্য।
ইংরেজি প্রশ্নে প্রায়ই subject-এর আগে একটি auxiliary verb ব্যবহৃত হয়।
সাধারণ প্রশ্ন-শব্দগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছে:

কখন ব্যবহার করবেন
উত্তর yes বা no হতে পারে এমন প্রশ্নের জন্য yes-or-no প্রশ্ন ব্যবহার করুন।
- Do you like coffee?
- Is he ready?
- Can they come?
নির্দিষ্ট তথ্যের প্রয়োজন হলে question-word প্রশ্ন ব্যবহার করুন।

- Where does she work?
- When are they leaving?
- Why did he call?
- How can I help?
এ বিষয়ে প্রশ্ন করতে প্রশ্ন ব্যবহার করুন:
- মানুষ: Who is that?
- জিনিস: What is this?
- স্থান: Where do you live?
- সময়: When does the meeting start?
- কারণ: Why are you late?
- পছন্দ: Which colour do you prefer?
- পদ্ধতি বা অবস্থা: How do you make this?

to be সহ প্রশ্ন
ব্যবহার করুন:
am/is/are + subject + complement?

অতীতের প্রশ্নের জন্য was বা were ব্যবহার করুন।

to be দিয়ে ব্যবহার করুন:
question word + am/is/are/was/were + subject?

যখন who বা what subject হয়, তখন do, does বা did ব্যবহার করবেন না।

তুলনা করুন:
- Who called Anna? — যে ব্যক্তি কল করেছিল তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করে
- Who did Anna call? — Anna যাকে কল করেছিল তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করে

ব্যতিক্রম
to be এর সাথে do, does বা did ব্যবহার করবেন না।

modal verb-এর সাথে do, does বা did ব্যবহার করবেন না।
- Correct: Can he drive?
- Incorrect: Does he can drive?
যখন প্রশ্ন-শব্দটি subject হয়, তখন স্বাভাবিক subject-verb শব্দক্রম ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- Who knows the answer?
- What caused the problem?
অনানুষ্ঠানিক কথোপকথনে কিছু প্রশ্ন statement-এর মতো রূপ নিতে পারে যখন বক্তা অবাক হন বা তথ্য যাচাই করেন।
- You finished already?
- She lives here?
এই রূপগুলো কথোপকথনে সাধারণ কিন্তু আনুষ্ঠানিক লেখায় কম উপযুক্ত।
