Đó là gì?

Tính từ so sánh nhất được dùng để so sánh một người, vật, địa điểm hoặc tình huống với tất cả những cái khác trong một nhóm.

Chúng thể hiện mức độ cao nhất hoặc thấp nhất của một phẩm chất.

Trong tiếng Anh, tính từ so sánh nhất thường dùng mạo từ xác định the.

• tall → the tallest
• fast → the fastest
• beautiful → the most beautiful
• expensive → the most expensive

Khi nào sử dụng

Dùng tính từ so sánh nhất khi so sánh một người hoặc vật với cả một nhóm.

• Emma is the tallest student in the class.
• This is the cheapest phone in the store.

Dùng so sánh nhất để mô tả mức độ cao nhất của một phẩm chất.

• It is the hottest day of the week.
• He is the fastest runner on the team.

Dùng the most + adjective với nhiều tính từ dài hơn.

• This is the most interesting book here.
• That is the most expensive restaurant in town.

Dùng the least + adjective cho mức độ thấp nhất của một phẩm chất.

• This is the least difficult exercise.
• It is the least expensive option.

Cấu trúc

Với nhiều tính từ ngắn, thêm -est.

Subject + be + the + adjective-est + noun/complement

• tall → the tallest
• small → the smallest
• fast → the fastest

Ví dụ:

Leo is the tallest student in the class.

Nếu một tính từ kết thúc bằng -e, chỉ thêm -st.

• nice → the nicest
• large → the largest

Nếu một tính từ ngắn kết thúc bằng một nguyên âm + một phụ âm, phụ âm cuối thường được gấp đôi.

• big → the biggest
• hot → the hottest

Nếu một tính từ kết thúc bằng phụ âm + -y, đổi y thành i và thêm -est.

• happy → the happiest
• easy → the easiest

Với nhiều tính từ dài hơn, dùng the most.

Subject + be + the most + adjective + noun/complement

• the most beautiful
• the most comfortable
• the most important

Ví dụ:

This is the most comfortable chair in the room.

Để thể hiện mức độ thấp nhất, dùng the least.

Subject + be + the least + adjective + noun/complement

Ví dụ:

This is the least expensive hotel nearby.

Một số tính từ có dạng so sánh nhất bất quy tắc.

• good → the best
• bad → the worst
• far → the farthest / the furthest

Thông thường không dùng cả most và -est với cùng một tính từ.

Dùng:

the tallest

không dùng:

the most tallest

Mạo từ xác định the thường được dùng trước một tính từ so sánh nhất khi tính từ đó mô tả một danh từ.

• She is the fastest runner.
• This is the best option.

Khi một từ sở hữu đã xác định danh từ, the không được dùng.

• my best friend
• her biggest problem
• our most important task

Một số tính từ hai âm tiết có thể dùng -est hoặc most, tùy thuộc vào tính từ và cách sử dụng.

• the cleverest / the most clever
• the quietest / the most quiet

Lỗi thường gặp

1. Incorrect: She is tallest student in the class. Correct: She is the tallest student in the class. Explanation: Tính từ so sánh nhất thường dùng the trước tính từ.

2. Incorrect: This is most expensive car here. Correct: This is the most expensive car here. Explanation: Dùng the trước most + adjective trong so sánh nhất.

3. Incorrect: He is the most tallest boy in the group. Correct: He is the tallest boy in the group. Explanation: Không dùng cả most và -est với cùng một tính từ.

4. Incorrect: This is the beautifullest place here. Correct: This is the most beautiful place here. Explanation: Tính từ dài hơn thường dùng the most thay vì -est.

5. Incorrect: Today is the hotest day of the week. Correct: Today is the hottest day of the week. Explanation: Gấp đôi phụ âm cuối trong hot trước khi thêm -est.

6. Incorrect: This is the easyest question. Correct: This is the easiest question. Explanation: Với tính từ kết thúc bằng phụ âm + y, đổi y thành i trước khi thêm -est.

7. Incorrect: He is my the best friend. Correct: He is my best friend. Explanation: Không dùng the khi một từ sở hữu như my đã xác định danh từ.
