Ang comparative adjectives ay ginagamit upang ihambing ang dalawang tao, bagay, lugar, o sitwasyon.

Kailan gamitin

Gamitin ang comparative adjectives kapag naghahambing ng dalawang tao o bagay.

  • This car is faster than that car.
  • My room is smaller than yours.

Gamitin ang mga ito kapag naghahambing ng dalawang lugar.

  • Calgary is colder than Vancouver.

Gamitin ang mga ito kapag naghahambing ng dalawang sitwasyon.

  • Today is busier than yesterday.

Gamitin ang more + adjective sa maraming mas mahabang adjectives.

  • This book is more interesting than that one.

Gamitin ang less + adjective upang ipakita ang mas mababang antas ng isang katangian.

  • This restaurant is less expensive than the other one.

Structure

Para sa maraming maiikling adjectives, idagdag ang -er.

Subject + be + adjective-er + than + noun/pronoun

  • tall → taller
  • fast → faster
  • old → older

Halimbawa:

Anna is taller than Maria.

Kung ang adjective ay nagtatapos sa -e, idagdag lamang ang -r.

  • nice → nicer
  • large → larger

Kung ang maiikling adjective ay nagtatapos sa isang vowel + isang consonant, ang huling consonant ay madalas na dinodoble.

  • big → bigger
  • hot → hotter

Kung ang adjective ay nagtatapos sa consonant + -y, palitan ang y ng i at idagdag ang -er.

  • happy → happier
  • easy → easier

Para sa maraming mas mahabang adjectives, gamitin ang more.

  • more beautiful
  • more comfortable
  • more important

Halimbawa:

This chair is more comfortable than that one.

Mga Exception

Ang ilang adjectives ay may irregular comparative forms at hindi gumagamit ng normal na -er o more pattern.

  • good → better
  • bad → worse
  • far → farther / further

Hindi karaniwang ginagamit ang parehong more at -er nang magkasama.

Ang ilang two-syllable adjectives ay maaaring gumamit ng alinman sa dalawang form depende sa adjective at gamit.
