How Much, How Many et Very

Qu'est-ce que c'est ?

How much et how many sont utilisés pour poser des questions sur la quantité.

Utilisez how much avec les noms indénombrables. Les noms indénombrables décrivent des choses qui ne sont normalement pas comptées comme des éléments individuels séparés.

  • How much water do you drink?
  • How much time do we have?

Utilisez how many avec les noms pluriels dénombrables. Les noms dénombrables peuvent être comptés comme des éléments séparés.

  • How many books do you own?
  • How many people are coming?

Very est utilisé avant un adjectif ou un adverbe pour renforcer son sens. Cela signifie « à un degré élevé ».

  • The coffee is very hot.
  • She speaks very slowly.

Quand utiliser

Utilisez how much pour demander une quantité de quelque chose d'indénombrable.

Les noms indénombrables courants incluent :

Utilisez :

Avec le verbe be, utilisez :

Questions avec how many

Utilisez :

how many + nom dénombrable pluriel + verbe auxiliaire + sujet + verbe principal ?

Phrases avec much et many

Much et many sont courants dans les phrases négatives et les questions.

  • We do not have much time.
  • She does not have many friends.
  • Do you drink much coffee?
  • Are there many shops nearby?

Dans les phrases affirmatives, a lot of est souvent plus naturel.

  • We have a lot of time.
  • She has a lot of friends.

Phrases avec very

Utilisez :

very + adjectif

  • very cold
  • very expensive
  • very tired

Utilisez :

very + adverbe

  • very slowly
  • very carefully
  • very well

Dans une phrase complète :

sujet + verbe + very + adjectif/adverbe

  • The test was very difficult.
  • He answered very politely.

N'utilisez normalement pas very directement avant un nom.

  • a very interesting book
  • pas un very book

Exceptions

Certains noms peuvent être dénombrables ou indénombrables selon leur sens.

  • How much coffee do you drink?
  • How many coffees did you order?

Dans la première phrase, coffee signifie la boisson en général. Dans la deuxième phrase, coffees signifie des tasses ou des portions séparées.

N'utilisez généralement pas very avec des adjectifs qui expriment déjà un sens extrême.

Au lieu de very excellent, utilisez excellent.

Au lieu de very impossible, utilisez impossible.

Certains adjectifs extrêmes peuvent être renforcés avec des mots comme absolutely ou completely.

  • absolutely impossible
  • completely empty

  1. Incorrect : How many water do you drink? Correct : How much water do you drink? Explication : Water est un nom indénombrable, donc utilisez how much.

  2. Incorrect : How much books do you have? Correct : How many books do you have? Explication : Books est un nom dénombrable pluriel, donc utilisez how many.

  3. Incorrect : How many money do you need? Correct : How much money do you need? Explication : Money est indénombrable en anglais.

  4. Incorrect : How much apples are there? Correct : How many apples are there? Explication : Utilisez how many avec les noms dénombrables pluriels.

  5. Incorrect : How much is these shoes? Correct : How much are these shoes? Explication : Utilisez are parce que shoes est pluriel.

  6. Incorrect : She is very a friendly person. Correct : She is a very friendly person. Explication : Placez very avant l'adjectif, pas avant l'article.

  7. Incorrect : He drives very careful. Correct : He drives very carefully. Explication : Utilisez un adverbe pour décrire comment quelqu'un conduit.

  8. Incorrect : I have much friends. Correct : I have many friends. Explication : Utilisez many avec les noms dénombrables pluriels.
