Prépositions de lieu

Qu'est-ce que c'est ?

Les prépositions de lieu indiquent où se trouve une personne, un animal ou une chose.

Les prépositions de lieu courantes incluent :

  • in
  • on
  • at
  • under
  • above
  • below
  • behind
  • in front of
  • next to
  • between
  • near
  • opposite

Exemples :

  • The keys are on the table.
  • The milk is in the fridge.
  • She is waiting at the bus stop.
  • The cat is under the chair.

Quand utiliser

Utilisez in lorsque quelque chose est à l'intérieur d'un espace clos ou d'une zone plus vaste.

  • in a room

  • in a country

Utilisez on lorsque quelque chose touche une surface.

  • on the floor
  • on the wall
  • on the table

Utilisez at pour un point ou un lieu précis.

  • at the door
  • at the station
  • at school
  • at work

Utilisez d'autres prépositions pour décrire la position d'une chose par rapport à une autre.

  • under the bed

Structure

Une préposition de lieu se place généralement avant un nom, un pronom ou un groupe nominal.

sujet + verbe + préposition de lieu + nom

  • The phone is on the desk.
  • They are in the garden.
  • She is standing next to me.

Prépositions de lieu courantes

In, on et at

Préposition Utilisation courante Exemple
in pièces, bâtiments, villes, pays She lives in London.

Exceptions

Certaines expressions de lieu courantes utilisent des prépositions fixes.

Le choix entre in, on et at peut dépendre de la façon dont un lieu est compris.

  • She is at the school. — Elle est à l'école (lieu).
  • She is in the school. — Elle est dans le bâtiment de l'école.

Erreurs courantes

  1. Incorrect : The keys are in the table. Correct : The keys are on the table. Explication : Utilisez on lorsque quelque chose touche une surface.

  2. Incorrect : I am in home. Correct : I am at home. Explication : Utilisez l'expression fixe at home.

  3. Incorrect : She is on the kitchen. Correct : She is in the kitchen. Explication : Utilisez in pour une pièce fermée.
