این چیست؟

در مقایسه‌های انگلیسی اغلب از than و the استفاده می‌شود.

Than بعد از صفت یا قید تفضیلی به کار می‌رود وقتی دو شخص، چیز، مکان یا موقعیت با هم مقایسه می‌شوند.

• Tom is taller than Ben.
• This car is faster than mine.

حرف تعریف معین the معمولاً قبل از صفت عالی به کار می‌رود وقتی یک شخص یا چیز با یک گروه کامل مقایسه می‌شود.

• Anna is the tallest student in the class.
• This is the cheapest option.

واژهٔ the همچنین در ساختار the + comparative, the + comparative به کار می‌رود تا نشان دهد دو تغییر با هم مرتبط هستند.

• The more you practise, the easier it becomes.
• The earlier we leave, the better.

چه زمانی استفاده کنیم

از than بعد از شکل تفضیلی استفاده کنید وقتی دو چیز را مستقیماً با هم مقایسه می‌کنید.

• My house is bigger than yours.
• Today is warmer than yesterday.

از the + superlative استفاده کنید وقتی شخص یا چیزی را با بالاترین یا پایین‌ترین درجهٔ یک ویژگی در یک گروه مشخص می‌کنید.

• She is the youngest person in the family.
• It is the most expensive restaurant here.

از the + comparative, the + comparative استفاده کنید وقتی یک تغییر بر تغییر دیگر اثر می‌گذارد.

• The faster you drive, the more fuel you use.
• The longer I wait, the more tired I become.

عبارت‌های کوتاه با این ساختار نیز رایج هستند.

• The sooner, the better.
• The more, the merrier.

ساختار

برای مقایسهٔ مستقیم:

Subject + be/verb + comparative + than + person/thing

• Jack is older than Sam.
• This train moves faster than that one.

با more یا less:

Subject + be/verb + more/less + adjective + than + person/thing

• This hotel is more comfortable than the other one.
• The second task is less difficult than the first.

برای صفت عالی:

Subject + be + the + superlative + noun/complement

• Maya is the tallest student in the class.
• This is the most useful tool.

برای نشان دادن دو تغییر مرتبط:

The + comparative + clause, the + comparative + clause

• The older I get, the more patient I become.
• The less you spend, the more you save.

در این ساختار ویژه، the بخشی از الگوی تفضیلی است. این واژه به روش معمولِ حرف تعریف معین، یک اسم مشخص را تعیین نمی‌کند.

مثال‌ها

1. My sister is younger than me.
2. This phone is cheaper than that one.
3. Her new job is more interesting than her old job.
4. Today is less stressful than yesterday.
5. Leo is the tallest boy in his family.
6. This is the most comfortable chair in the room.
7. The earlier we start, the earlier we finish.
8. The more you read, the more words you learn.
9. The colder it gets, the more clothes I wear.
10. The sooner we leave, the better.

استثناها

بعد از than، انگلیسی ممکن است بسته به سبک و ساختار جمله از شکل‌های مختلف ضمیر استفاده کند.

• She is taller than me.
• She is taller than I am.

هر دو رایج و درست هستند. شکل دوم معمولاً رسمی‌تر است.

حرف تعریف معین معمولاً قبل از صفت تفضیلی معمولی در یک مقایسهٔ ساده به کار نمی‌رود.

• Correct: John is taller than Mike.
• Incorrect: John is the taller than Mike.

با این حال، the می‌تواند با شکل تفضیلی به کار رود وقتی بین دقیقاً دو شخص یا چیز انتخاب می‌کنیم.

• John is the taller of the two brothers.

ساختار the + comparative, the + comparative یک الگوی مقایسه‌ای ثابت و ویژه است.

اشتباهات رایج

1. Incorrect: My car is faster that yours. Correct: My car is faster than yours. Explanation: از than بعد از شکل تفضیلی استفاده کنید وقتی دو چیز را مقایسه می‌کنید.

2. Incorrect: Lisa is taller from Anna. Correct: Lisa is taller than Anna. Explanation: انگلیسی معمولاً بعد از شکل تفضیلی از than استفاده می‌کند، نه from.

3. Incorrect: This book is more interesting that the other one. Correct: This book is more interesting than the other one. Explanation: از than برای معرفی بخش دوم مقایسه استفاده کنید.

4. Incorrect: He is tallest student in the class. Correct: He is the tallest student in the class. Explanation: صفت‌های عالی معمولاً از حرف تعریف معین the استفاده می‌کنند.

5. Incorrect: This is most expensive hotel here. Correct: This is the most expensive hotel here. Explanation: در صفت عالی، قبل از most + adjective از the استفاده کنید.

6. Incorrect: More you practise, easier it becomes. Correct: The more you practise, the easier it becomes. Explanation: در این ساختار قبل از هر دو شکل تفضیلی از the استفاده کنید.

7. Incorrect: The faster you work, you finish sooner. Correct: The faster you work, the sooner you finish. Explanation: در ساختار تغییرات مرتبط، هر دو بخش معمولاً از the + comparative استفاده می‌کنند.
