それは何ですか？
Past Simple（過去形）は、過去に始まり終わった動作、出来事、状況について話すときに使います。
例：
- 私は昨日友達を訪ねました。
- 彼女は先週在宅で働きました。
- 彼らは映画館に行きました。
規則動詞は通常、-ed を付けて Past Simple を形成します。
- work → worked
- play → played
- clean → cleaned
不規則動詞には特別な過去形があります。
- go → went
- see → saw
- buy → bought
- have → had
いつ使うか
Past Simple は以下の場合に使います：
- 過去に完了した動作：私は昨日レポートを終えました。
- 一連の完了した動作：彼女はドアを開け、中に入り、座りました。
- 過去の習慣：私たちは毎日外で遊びました。
- もはや真実ではない過去の状況：彼は5年間ロンドンに住んでいました。
- 特定の過去の時点での動作：彼らは午後8時に到着しました。
よく使われる過去の時間表現には以下があります：
- yesterday
- last night
- last week
- two days ago
- in 2020
- when I was a child
構造
肯定文
規則動詞の場合、以下を使います：
主語 + 動詞-ed

過去形はすべての主語に対して同じです。

否定文
以下を使います：
主語 + did not + 動詞の原形
did not の短縮形は didn’t です。
- I did not call him.
- She didn’t go to work.
- They didn’t understand the question.
didn’t の後には動詞の原形を使います。
疑問文
以下を使います：
Did + 主語 + 動詞の原形?
- Did you call her?
- Did he finish the task?
- Did they arrive on time?
短い答え
- Did you see him? — Yes, I did.
- Did she call? — No, she didn’t.

例外
動詞 to be は、Past Simple の疑問文と否定文で did を使いません。
- I was tired.
- They were at home.
- She wasn’t ready.
- Were you busy?
一部の動詞は不規則で、-ed を使いません。

- find → found
不規則形は個別に覚える必要があります。
