Past Simple

Cos'è?

Il Past Simple si usa per parlare di azioni, eventi e situazioni che sono iniziati e finiti nel passato.

Esempi:

  • I visited my friend yesterday.
  • She worked from home last week.
  • They went to the cinema.

I verbi regolari di solito formano il Past Simple con -ed.

  • work → worked
  • play → played
  • clean → cleaned

I verbi irregolari hanno forme passate speciali.

  • go → went
  • see → saw
  • buy → bought
  • have → had

Quando si usa

Usa il Past Simple per:

  • azioni completate nel passato: I finished the report yesterday.
  • una serie di azioni completate: She opened the door, walked inside, and sat down.
  • abitudini passate: We played outside every day.
  • situazioni passate che non sono più vere: He lived in London for five years.
  • azioni in un momento specifico del passato: They arrived at 8 p.m.

Le espressioni di tempo passato comuni includono:

  • yesterday
  • last night
  • last week
  • two days ago
  • in 2020
  • when I was a child

Frasi affermative

Per i verbi regolari, usa:

soggetto + verbo-ed

Soggetto Verbo Esempio

Per i verbi irregolari, usa la forma passata speciale.

La forma passata è la stessa per ogni soggetto.

  • I worked.
  • He worked.
  • They worked.

Frasi negative

Usa:

soggetto + did not + verbo base

La forma contratta di did not è didn’t.

  • I did not call him.
  • She didn’t go to work.
  • They didn’t understand the question.

Dopo didn’t, usa la forma base del verbo.

Domande

Usa:

Did + soggetto + verbo base?

  • Did you call her?
  • Did he finish the task?
  • Did they arrive on time?

Risposte brevi

  • Did you see him? — Yes, I did.
  • Did she call? — No, she didn’t.
  • Did they leave? — Yes, they did.

Ortografia dei verbi regolari

Regola Verbo base Forma passata
La maggior parte dei verbi: aggiungi -ed work worked
Verbi che terminano in -e: aggiungi -d live lived
Consonante + y: cambia y in i e aggiungi -ed study studied
Vocale breve accentata + consonante: raddoppia la consonante finale stop stopped

Eccezioni

Il verbo to be non usa did nelle domande e nelle negazioni al Past Simple.

  • I was tired.
  • They were at home.
  • She wasn’t ready.
  • Were you busy?

Alcuni verbi sono irregolari e non usano -ed.

  • come → came
  • write → wrote
  • make → made
  • find → found

Le forme irregolari devono essere imparate singolarmente.

Errori comuni

  1. Errato: I goed to work yesterday. Corretto: I went to work yesterday. Spiegazione: Go è irregolare. La sua forma passata è went.

  2. Errato: She didn’t went home. Corretto: She didn’t go home. Spiegazione: Usa il verbo base dopo didn’t.

  3. Errato: Did you saw him? Corretto: Did you see him? Spiegazione: Usa il verbo base dopo did.

  4. Errato: He work yesterday. Corretto: He worked yesterday. Spiegazione: Usa la forma del Past Simple per un'azione passata completata.

  5. Errato: They was late. Corretto: They were late. Spiegazione: Usa were con they.

  6. Errato: I didn’t called her. Corretto: I didn’t call her. Spiegazione: Non usare la forma passata dopo didn’t.

  7. Errato: Did she finished the task? Corretto: Did she finish the task? Spiegazione: Usa la forma base dopo did.

  8. Errato: We studyed English yesterday. Corretto: We studied English yesterday. Spiegazione: Cambia consonante + y in i prima di aggiungere -ed.
