Imperativi positivi e negativi

  • Open the door.
  • Please sit down.
  • Take some water.

  • Do not open the door.
  • Don’t touch that.
  • Don’t be late.

Il soggetto sottinteso è you.

Quando si usano

Usa gli imperativi per:

  • comandi: Stop talking.
  • istruzioni: Turn left at the traffic lights.
  • richieste: Please help me.
  • consigli: Get some rest.
  • avvertimenti: Be careful.
  • inviti: Come in.
  • divieti: Don’t park here.

  • Please close the window.
  • Wait here, please.

Struttura

Imperativi affermativi

Usa la forma base del verbo.

verbo base + oggetto Close the door.
please + verbo base Please wait here.
verbo base + please Help me, please.

Imperativi negativi

Usa do not o don’t prima della forma base del verbo.

do not + verbo base Do not enter.
don’t + verbo base Don’t enter.
please + do not + verbo base Please do not touch this.
don’t + be + aggettivo Don’t be noisy.

  • Don’t be afraid.

  • Let’s take a break.

Usa let’s not + verbo base per un suggerimento negativo.

  • Let’s not wait too long.

Eccezioni

  • You stay here.
  • You be careful.
  • You take this box, and Mark can take the other one.

Usa always e never prima del verbo principale negli imperativi.

  • Always check the door.
  • Never share your password.

Non usare do not never, perché crea un doppio negativo errato.
