Aggettivi possessivi

Cos'è?

Gli aggettivi possessivi indicano a chi appartiene qualcosa o a chi qualcosa è collegato.

Vengono prima di un sostantivo.

Quando si usano

Usa gli aggettivi possessivi per parlare di:

  • possesso: This is my laptop.
  • relazioni familiari: Her mother is a teacher.
  • parti del corpo: He hurt his arm.
  • oggetti personali: Where are your keys?
  • luoghi collegati a qualcuno: Our office is nearby.
  • animali o cose: The dog is eating its food.

Usa un aggettivo possessivo prima del sostantivo che descrive.

Non usare un articolo prima di un aggettivo possessivo.

Eccezioni

Its è un aggettivo possessivo.

  • The company changed its name.

It's è la forma abbreviata di it is o it has.

  • It's cold today.
  • It's been a long day.

Non usare un apostrofo nell'aggettivo possessivo its.

Gli aggettivi possessivi sono diversi dai pronomi possessivi.

  • This is my book.
  • This book is mine.

Un aggettivo possessivo deve essere seguito da un sostantivo. Un pronome possessivo sostituisce il sostantivo.

Errori comuni

  1. Scorretto: She is my sister. His name is Anna. Corretto: She is my sister. Her name is Anna. Spiegazione: Usa her per un possessore femminile.

  2. Scorretto: He has a car. Her car is new. Corretto: He has a car. His car is new. Spiegazione: Usa his per un possessore maschile.
