Ce este?

Adjectivele descriu substantivele. Ele oferă mai multe informații despre o persoană, un loc, un lucru sau o idee.

Adjectivele comune descriu calități precum mărimea, culoarea, vârsta, forma sau opinia.

Exemple:

• a small house
• a red bag
• an old car
• a friendly teacher

Adjectivele demonstrative indică substantive specifice. Ele sunt:

• this
• that
• these
• those

Un adjectiv demonstrativ stă întotdeauna înaintea unui substantiv.

Exemple:

• this book
• that building
• these shoes
• those people

Când se folosește

Folosește adjectivele comune pentru a descrie cum este un substantiv.

Exemple:

• a beautiful garden
• a difficult question
• a cold morning

Folosește adjectivele demonstrative pentru a arăta la ce persoană sau lucru te referi.

Folosește this pentru o persoană sau un lucru care este aproape.

• this chair

Folosește that pentru o persoană sau un lucru care este mai departe.

• that chair

Folosește these pentru două sau mai multe persoane sau lucruri care sunt aproape.

• these chairs

Folosește those pentru două sau mai multe persoane sau lucruri care sunt mai departe.

• those chairs

Adjectivele demonstrative pot arăta și dacă ceva pare apropiat sau îndepărtat în timp.

• this week
• that day
• these months

Structură

Adjective comune înaintea substantivelor

Structura obișnuită este:

articol sau determinant + adjectiv + substantiv

Adjectivele comune nu se schimbă pentru substantivele la singular sau la plural.

• a small box
• two small boxes

Adjective comune după verbe copulative

Adjectivele pot apărea și după verbe precum be, look, feel, seem și become.

Structura este:

subiect + verb copulativ + adjectiv

• The room is small.
• She looks tired.
• The water feels cold.

Adjective demonstrative

Structura este:

adjectiv demonstrativ + substantiv

Folosește this și that cu substantive la singular.

• this apple
• that person

Folosește these și those cu substantive la plural.

• these apples
• those people

Un adjectiv demonstrativ poate sta înaintea altui adjectiv.

Structura este:

adjectiv demonstrativ + adjectiv comun + substantiv

• this old house
• that blue car
• these new shoes
• those large buildings

Excepții

Unele adjective stau de obicei după substantivul sau pronumele pe care îl descriu.

• something useful
• someone special
• the people responsible

Unele adjective sunt folosite în mod obișnuit după un verb copulativ și, de regulă, nu se pun direct înaintea unui substantiv.

• The child is asleep.
• She is afraid.

Adjectivele demonstrative trebuie să se potrivească cu substantivul ca număr.

• this book
• these books
• that car
• those cars
