Ce este?
Întrebările sunt folosite pentru a cere informații, confirmare, permisiune sau ajutor.
Întrebările în engleză folosesc adesea un verb auxiliar înaintea subiectului.
Cuvintele de întrebare frecvente includ:
- who
- what
- where
- when
- why
- which
- how
Exemple:
- Do you work here?
- Is she at home?
- Where do they live?
- Why are you tired?
Când se folosesc
Folosiți întrebări cu da sau nu atunci când răspunsul poate fi da sau nu.
- Do you like coffee?
- Is he ready?
- Can they come?
Folosiți întrebări cu cuvânt de întrebare atunci când aveți nevoie de informații specifice.
- What do you want?
- Where does she work?
- When are they leaving?
- Why did he call?
- How can I help?
Folosiți întrebări pentru a întreba despre:
- persoane: Who is that?
- lucruri: What is this?
- locuri: Where do you live?
- timp: When does the meeting start?
- motive: Why are you late?
- alegeri: Which colour do you prefer?
- metode sau condiții: How do you make this?

Folosiți:
am/is/are + subiect + complement?

Pentru întrebări la trecut, folosiți was sau were.

Puneți cuvântul de întrebare înaintea verbului auxiliar.

Cu to be, folosiți:
cuvânt de întrebare + am/is/are/was/were + subiect?
- Where is she?
- Why are they angry?

Întrebări cu subiect
Când who sau what este subiectul, nu folosiți do, does sau did.
- Who called you?
- What happened?
- Who lives here?
Comparați:
- Who called Anna? — întreabă despre persoana care a sunat
- Who did Anna call? — întreabă despre persoana pe care a sunat Anna

Excepții
Nu folosiți do, does sau did cu to be.
- Corect: Is she ready?
- Incorect: Does she be ready?
Nu folosiți do, does sau did cu verbe modale.
- Corect: Can he drive?
- Incorect: Does he can drive?
Când un cuvânt de întrebare este subiectul, se folosește ordinea normală subiect-verb.
- Who knows the answer?
- What caused the problem?
Unele întrebări pot avea o formă asemănătoare cu o afirmație în vorbirea informală, când vorbitorul este surprins sau verifică informații.
- You finished already?
- She lives here?
Aceste forme sunt frecvente în conversație, dar sunt mai puțin potrivite în scrierea formală.
