Trecutul Simplu al verbului „To Be”

Ce este?

Formele de trecut simplu ale verbului to be sunt was și were.

Folosiți was cu:

  • I
  • he
  • she
  • it

Folosiți were cu:

  • you
  • we
  • they

Exemple:

  • I was tired.
  • She was at home.
  • We were busy.
  • They were happy.

Formele negative sunt was not și were not.

Formele scurte comune sunt:

  • was not → wasn’t
  • were not → weren’t

Când se folosește

Folosiți trecutul simplu al lui to be pentru a vorbi despre:

  • stări trecute: I was tired.
  • sentimente trecute: She was nervous.
  • locații trecute: They were at school.
  • vârste trecute: He was ten years old.
  • descrieri trecute: The room was small.
  • situații trecute: We were very busy.
  • date și ore trecute: It was Monday.

Răspunsuri scurte

  • Was he late? — Yes, he was.
  • Was she tired? — No, she wasn’t.
  • Were they at school? — Yes, they were.
  • Were you busy? — No, I wasn’t.

Exemple

  1. I was very tired yesterday.
  2. She was at the office this morning.
  3. He wasn’t ready for the meeting.
  4. It was cold last night.

Excepții

Folosiți were în loc de was în unele expresii formale sau ireale cu I, he, she sau it.

  • If I were you, I would wait.
  • I wish she were here.

În engleza informală, was este uneori folosit în aceste expresii, dar were este forma standard.

Greșeli comune

  1. Incorect: I were tired yesterday. Corect: I was tired yesterday. Explicație: Folosiți was cu I.

  2. Incorect: They was at home. Corect: They were at home. Explicație: Folosiți were cu they.

  3. Incorect: She didn’t be happy. Corect: She wasn’t happy. Explicație: Nu folosiți didn’t cu trecutul simplu al lui to be.

  4. Incorect: Did he was at work? Corect: Was he at work? Explicație: Nu folosiți did în întrebări cu was sau were.

  5. Incorect: We wasn’t ready. Corect: We weren’t ready. Explicație: Folosiți weren’t cu we.

  6. Incorect: Were she at school? Corect: Was she at school? Explicație: Folosiți was cu she.

  7. Incorect: I was not at home? Corect: Was I not at home? Explicație: Puneți was înaintea subiectului pentru a forma o întrebare.

  8. Incorect: They were not tired? Corect: Weren’t they tired? Explicație: În întrebări, plasați were sau weren’t înaintea subiectului.
