Ce este?
Comparațiile în engleză folosesc adesea than și the.
- Tom is taller than Ben.
- This car is faster than mine.
- Anna is the tallest student in the class.
- This is the cheapest option.
Cuvântul the se folosește de asemenea în structura the + comparativ, the + comparativ pentru a arăta că două schimbări sunt legate între ele.
- The more you practise, the easier it becomes.
- The earlier we leave, the better.
Când se folosește
Folosește than după o formă comparativă atunci când compari direct două lucruri.
- My house is bigger than yours.
- Today is warmer than yesterday.
- She is the youngest person in the family.
- It is the most expensive restaurant here.
Folosește the + comparativ, the + comparativ atunci când o schimbare o afectează pe alta.
- The faster you drive, the more fuel you use.
- The longer I wait, the more tired I become.
- The sooner, the better.
- The more, the merrier.
Structură
Pentru o comparație directă:
Subiect + be/verb + comparativ + than + persoană/lucru
- Jack is older than Sam.
- This train moves faster than that one.
Cu more sau less:
Subiect + be/verb + more/less + adjectiv + than + persoană/lucru
- This hotel is more comfortable than the other one.
- The second task is less difficult than the first.
Pentru un superlativ:
Subiect + be + the + superlativ + substantiv/complement
- Maya is the tallest student in the class.
- This is the most useful tool.
| Formă | Exemplu |
|---|---|
| comparativ + than | taller than |
| more + adjectiv + than | more expensive than |
| less + adjectiv + than | less difficult than |
| the + superlativ | the tallest |
| the most + adjectiv | the most expensive |
The + comparativ + propoziție, the + comparativ + propoziție
- The older I get, the more patient I become.
- The less you spend, the more you save.

- She is taller than me.
- She is taller than I am.
- Corect: John is taller than Mike.
- Incorect: John is the taller than Mike.
