What is it?
Aller, faire, venir and prendre are common irregular French verbs.
They do not follow the regular -er, -ir or -re conjugation patterns, so their present-tense forms must be learned individually.
Their basic meanings are:

When to use
Use aller to talk about going somewhere.
- Je vais au travail.
- Nous allons au restaurant.
Use faire to talk about doing or making something.
- Je fais mes devoirs.
- Elle fait un gâteau.
Faire is also used in many common expressions.

Use venir to talk about coming from or toward a place.
- Il vient chez moi.
- Nous venons du Canada.
Use prendre to talk about taking something.
- Je prends le bus.
- Elle prend un café.
- Nous prenons une photo.
Structure
The basic structure is:
Subject + conjugated verb + complement
Examples:
- Je vais à Paris.
- Tu fais du sport.
- Elle vient demain.

Aller
Use:
aller + place
- Je vais au bureau.
- Nous allons à l’école.
Faire
Use:
faire + activity or object
- Tu fais du sport.
- Elle fait le dîner.
Venir
Use:
venir + place
- Ils viennent ici.
- Vous venez chez nous.
To say where someone comes from, use venir de.
- Je viens de France.
- Il vient du Canada.
Prendre
Use:
prendre + noun
- Je prends le métro.
- Elle prend une douche.
- Nous prenons le petit-déjeuner.
To make a negative sentence, place ne or n’ before the verb and pas after it.
- Je ne vais pas au travail.
- Il ne fait pas de sport.
- Nous ne venons pas demain.
- Elle ne prend pas le bus.

- Tu fais tes devoirs après l’école.
- Il vient chez nous ce soir.

Exceptions
These verbs are irregular, so their forms cannot be created simply by removing the infinitive ending and adding regular endings.
Aller ends in -er, but it does not follow the regular -er pattern.
- je vais, not je alle
- nous allons, not nous allons from a regular stem pattern
The vous form of faire is faites, not faisez.
The plural forms of venir and prendre change their stems.
- ils viennent

The verb venir is often used with de to express origin.
- Je viens de Belgique.
- Elle vient du Québec.
